Why us?

What do you envision when you think of your “dream dog”? At Snell’s Innovative Training, it is our mission to provide transformative dog training results for you and your dog and to improve the relationship you have with one another. Anyone can train a dog to obey commands, but true obedience is always built on the foundation of a great relationship. In order to get the “dog of your dreams”, we must first become the human of their dreams. Now read that again.

We will never use a “one size fits all” approach to dog training because all dogs and all owners are different. We take the time to figure out exactly what you both need and tailor our programs accordingly. This takes significant time and effort, which is something many dog training companies do not put enough emphasis on. We will always prioritize quality of training over the quantity of dogs we are training. We usually only train 3 to 4 dogs at a time. We want every dog to get as much one-on-one time as they need to be the best versions of themselves.

Another thing that makes us so different from other training facilities is that we focus on training you, the owner, just as much as we focus on training your dog. We will teach you how to maintain and build upon your dog’s training for years to come. We are very passionate about this because we believe the real success lies in your ability to continue training in everyday life because much like humans, dogs are never done learning!

  • One thing that makes Snell’s Innovative Training innovative is that we recognize that no dog and no owner are alike and our custom tailored programs reflect that. If you go to our services pages and click on the “whats included” tab, you will see that we don’t usually automatically include any one training tool in our programs because what worked best for the last dog isn’t necessarily what's going to be best for the next dog.

Another thing we pride ourselves on is that we focus on training you, the human, just as much as we train your dog. Unfortunately, this is where many training facilities fall short. They keep your dog for 1-3 weeks, your dog looks perfect at the end, but you don’t know how to maintain it and a month later you are right back where you started.

At Snell’s Innovative Training, we believe the real success lies in your ability to continue training in everyday life because much like humans, dogs are never done learning!

  • If you choose to do Private Sessions with us we will start off in your home where your dog feels most at ease but if your dog needs one of our Board & Train Programs they will be staying in our facility which is far from that of a regular Dog Training Facility! Since we keep our standards high and our quantity of dogs low, we are able to have our facility IN our Head Trainer’s house! How’s that for VIP treatment? We opted for an in-home training environment for several reasons. Safety is our #1 priority and having our head trainer living with your dog during their stay allows us to ensure that your dog will be cared for and supervised 24/7. Being in a home environment can also help your dog feel at home a lot faster than they would have in a cold, sterile, concrete facility with 30 other dogs. This is very important because it’s no secret that dogs (or any living being) will be more receptive to learning in an environment that they feel safe and relaxed in. Another reason we find it important to teach dogs in an in-home environment is because dogs do not generalize well. What we mean by this is that dogs learn in pictures and when that picture changes all of a sudden it can be very confusing for them. Assuming your home doesn’t look like a metal warehouse with concrete floors this can be a little counter productive for your dog and they may not be set up for success when you take them home. Of course, it will be our job to get your dog as well generalized as possible during their stay (which is why we go on so many field trips) but this point is definitely worth noting and it is another reason we always try to hold graduations for our Board & Train dogs in the client’s house to make sure it all transfers over.

  • As mentioned above, we have chosen to have an in-home facility for many reasons but the peace of mind that comes with knowing your dog is living with our head trainer is something that our clients say is worth it’s weight in gold. One of the perks of your dog living in our Head Trainer’s house during their stay is that they will seldom if ever be left unattended so you can rest easy knowing your dog is always being taken care of like one of our own. In addition, this is also great for crate conditioning and potty training younger dogs as we can continue their potty schedule the same way you have been doing it at home and then go from there.

  • For our clients that go the Board & Train route, we know it can be hard being separated from your furry friend between sessions, so we try to post each dog at least once a day on our Instagram Story and they may also be featured on our TikTok or Facebook account so you can keep up with their progress. Our Head Trainer

Sam is a double-certified professional dog trainer and the head trainer here at Snell’s Innovative Training. Sam graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a focus in animal behavior, from the University of Mississippi. After working at multiple dog training, boarding, and grooming facilities, Sam knew training would be the focus of his career and wanted to further his education, so he enrolled at CATCH Canine Trainers Academy. After successfully completing that program, Sam went on to attend and become a graduate of Starmark Academy School of Animal Behavior in Austin, TX. A few months later he moved to Nashville, where he began his career at another dog training facility before starting Snell’s Innovative Training. Over the years, Sam has trained hundreds of dogs and helped thousands of people through his social media accounts. Sam has worked with a wide range of breeds and primarily focuses on training dogs for obedience and behavior modification; however, he also has experience training for agility, scent work, and even some service tasks!

“We highly recommend Snell's Innovative Training! Sam is amazing with dogs and is extremely loving and patient! He has changed our lives more than he knows!”
